Unfortunately...

...I am obsessing about this decluttering. I could not sleep at all last night. Kept thinking about what to do next. And worrying that this sorting means that the rest of the house is going to pot because there is so little time to do all of the regular house stuff like every day tidying and putting away of the Wee One's stuff.

So while the house is looking better...in places...I look like this...

Spring Clean - otherwise known as Still Trying

So it was last year this time I started trying to have a proper clear out and declutter. I am still trying. The Easter holidays mean I have had time to chill and to get started. I am prompted by moths, and what looks like woodworm, and just plain being fed up. The main problem is that I am not in very good shape physically. I am stiff and tire easy, but am also dealing with all that elsewhere, anaemia, arthritis, whatever. Fun. Martine has been to help. I have been in the eaves to get rid of stuff in storage, mostly fabric and yarn, and hopefully to help deal with the moth problem. Also got rid of old tents which are now unusable.  No sign of woodworm in there! After being in the eaves, the loft looks like this. decluttering is a thing

I have a messy house. I have a house full of crap. I have a busy, chaotic house. I have a lot of stuff that we actually use. So now what? 3 of the kids have moved out. I have lived in this house for 23 years. Every once in a while I have a clear out. But we always have the same problems. We don't have the right storage or organisation for the stuff we want to keep. Often stuff is just out and about because it doesn't have a place to live. Putting stuff away is impossible if it doesn't have a home. And we have too much. But of course, having another child meant that a lot of the stuff that we were on the verge of getting rid of has been kept for her. And is being used. I supposed this project has already begun. It began when the Boy moved out last August and I wanted to start sorting the house. We bought lots o IKEA furniture for the Babe's bedroom and that is looking better. Even when it is untidy. Officially started

I have been trying to "sort things out" for years. I go the charity shop on a regular basis. The older kids as they move out are actually quite good at managing their stuff. My house is full of STUFF.  I cannot really blame anybody else anymore. This past week was half term. I booked the Wee One on an activity which meant she was out of the house for a couple hours each day throughout the week and I thought I would get started. But where. It is all too much. We have three rooms in our house which are  basically unusable. The third is the bedroom of the Meister who moved out at the end of last year. I had plans for that room. And it just joined the ranks of the others junk rooms. Part of the problem is time. We are busy. We never have the time to do this. Part of it is storage. We didn't have any money to spend on furniture when we bought this house nearly 24 years ago. WE have accumulated other people's cast offs and things from Freecycle and some random IKEA bits
